error codes explained?
Posted by T Joanson on January 6, 2006 at 4:33 pmMaybe this is wrong forum to put this question. If so I beg your pardon. If not:
Trying to find explanation to error codes in after effects. Having problems with “opening soundmodule” (-2166). Any ideas where to find them? Many thanks

When are you getting the error?

January 6, 2006 at 8:25 pmThanks for resopnding.
So far I havent found anything via google…
It occurs quite often when opening the waveform of a soundlayer and always when scrubbing (cmd+drag). Thus I can’t work with sync between audio and image other than just guessing where to put keyframes.

January 9, 2006 at 6:51 pmIf reinstalling AE fails, try reinstalling and/or updating the drivers for your sound card.
Where did the file come from? It’s possible that AE may have problems reading the codec that the audio is in.

January 15, 2006 at 12:46 amI guess the good news is that this is a known issue. You’re probably using Quicktime version 7.0.3, or as I unfortunately discovered today ver. 7.0.4 is also subject to the problem. You’ll need to downgrade back to 7.0.1. Apple has created a downgrader (admitting the problem, but apparently not fixing it in this latest version of quicktime). You can get it here:

January 15, 2006 at 1:27 pmGreat! Thank you Greg for the tip. It works fine after reinstalling QT 7.0.1. Thanks all of you that took precious time to look in to my dilemma.
