Erratic audio sync – cutting to music
I have to cut to music for most of what I do, and Premiere Pro CS6, running on a 10.8.2 early 2008 Mac Pro with 18GB and a Quadro 4000 plus a GTX 470, seems to deliver extremely erratic sync. Generally the audio lags by anywhere from 50 to 500 or so milliseconds. Once I export to AME, of course, everything lines up OK, but for much of what I do, I have to edit using the waveform cues, rather than actually using my ears. Any suggestions??

Keep your interface on one screen if you’re running dual computer screens. If you’re running on dual screens, you’re dropping frames which throws the audio out of sync with the video.
Drop the resolution of the video to help your system keep up without dropping frames.
In the Program monitor, turn on the Dropped Frame Indicator and you’ll know right away if you’re dropping frames. Green, you’re good. Yellow and you dropped frames.

Walter “Mr. Post” Biscardi! Thanks for taking the time. Of your suggestions, the absolute most effective was the single monitor thing. I already had Program resolution down to 1/4, so nowhere to go there, but losing that second display seems to have helped. Thanks!
