Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions Equalizer effect

    Hi
    i have this 5X5 squares
which each square change its color from black to white
i want to create an equalizer effect of the squares which means
some are black and some are white going up in a row
i guess some expression will work here maybe valueAtTime but that will work one way and then i have to go back to original start how i reverse it?
anyway what is the best way to build it?
separating each row from bottom to top? (in a precomp)
separating each row from left to tight? (in a precomp)
or maybe each square by itself
    thanx in advance

Can’t you do the effect with the spectrum analyzer plugin + mosaic and grid filters ?

    Your question is very unclear.

    Ill try to explain better
i have a comp lets call it square
in comp i have a 50X50 pixles black square that change to white
in the main comp i have a 5 squares in each row and 5 in each colmn
    meanning i have 25 squares
i want to have a look of an equalizser bars rising in different ways
so i can have only the 5 on the left showing black and the one next to it just 2 are blacks and the rest are white after few frames the third row is black and the others are white
in reality i have each square showing a video of someone showing a card to the camera making it all black and then remove it
(its like the effect of people holding cards in a game with letters)
and i use time remapping to control what is showing
    is that clear?
    thanx

    I think I understand it.

I would create a precomp of the colums (5 vertical squares) where with timeremapping you have the bottom square go from black to white in 1 second, in the next second, you let the 2nd square go white etc.
    You’ll have a precomp of 0 to 5 seconds.

Now get some audio values with the audio to keyframes,
and use an expression on the timeremapping of the entire column-precomp so when the audio is quiet, you get time=0 when it is at it’s loudest you get time=5.

You’ll need different copies of the audio (with audiofilters Low, Mid, High) so every column moves differently. Or if you have Trapcode Soundkeys that makes it very easy
