As I have said I am a beginner. I have a MXL 990 Mic that I am gonna be using for vocals. I was just curious how most people on this board EQ their vox. I know it depends, but what is the usual basic set-up?
    Thanks in advance – Adam

There is no basic set up. Every singer will be different, every room will be different, the style of music is different, the humidity outside is different, etc. etc. The best EQ is no EQ. Try to make sure you have the mic placed correctly and you will have to use little of no EQ (unless you’re going for a special effect, of course). Start with the mic maybe 6 to 10 incehes from your vocalist, then move it around while listening until you find the sweet spot. Beyond that, try to use “Subtractive EQ”. That means if a sound is a little bassy, for instance, instead of adding more highs, cut the lows. This usually results in a cleaner sound. And then just use your ears to get the sound you’re after.

    Hope this helps.
