  • entire timeline affected by zooming in on a few shots

    Hi

I zoomed in on a few shots to crop out a shotgun mic that had drifted into the frame. When I went back to the beginning of the timeline, I found the entire timeline was cropped. How can I limit the zooming in to only the shots I want, while leaving the rest of the timeline alone. It’s strange, because I highlighted the specific shots and thought the change would only apply there. Any help you can give will be appreciated.

    Thanks. Donna Gray

Double click on the shot that you want to modify, and that will open the timeline verion of that shot in the viewer. Then you can modify that shot there.

If you modify in the canvas, that affects the entire timeline.

One more question. How do I get the timeline back to normal so I can start over and do as you suggested?

    Thanks for your help. Donna

Actually, my answer above wasn’t quite right. When you crop a shot on the timeline, it seems to affect only that shot. If you crop a sequence within a sequence (a nested sequence) it affects the whole thing.

To get rid of cropping, select the item in the timeline by control click, then select “open in viewer”. Go to the motion tab of that viewer, and click the red X’s to reset motion parameters.

sounds like you’ve zoomed into your canvas window with either the zoom tool, or Apple +.
all that does is affect your display.
    of everything, (as you;ve discovered)

Shift Z is the “Fit to Window” command.
    this will fix your canvas
you can also find “Fit to window” in the % drop down menu at top of canvas.
    but remember Shift Z!
it works on the timeline, too, and you will love it!
