Enlarging clips without reducing resolution in output
I have a short shot on a RED in 6K, 6144 x 3160. I want to output 1998 x 1080. If I enlarge a clip say 130%, will the compression divide the pixels inside the frame, which would be roughly 25% less by the same factor, resulting in a 25% reduction in resolution? In other words (ignoring the 1.94/1.85 ratio difference and taking only the horizontal for the moment), if the compression divides each pixel count by roughly three from 6144, it outputs 1998. If I’ve enlarged a clip and only say 4726 pixels are inside the frame, will the compressor also divide that by three resulting in a lower resolution of only roughly 1575 rather than 1998.
The bottom line is, how do I make sure the enlarged clip takes advantage of the high resolution source to insure I don’t lose resolution in the output.
I hope that’s clear. It took me a number of minutes just to formulate this question.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
