  • Enhancing 4:3 to 16:9

I have asked quite a few people this question and they seem to have no clue how to answer it. I was wondering how would I be able to convert 4:3 footage into 16:9 and enhance it in such a way that it plays back in the composer monitor, as if it was native 16:9. This also goes for playback on a 16:9 television. I am also not asking how to matte the footage 16:9, as that would be too simple.

If someone could find a solution to this problem either within or outside the AVID program, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

the trick is to scale it vertically and reposition to a “correct” framing.
If you have to render or not depends on your system.

Enhancing is not the word, as you will loose resolution and the original framing…

Agreed, no real way to “enhance”

Unless you’re working on a piece about clocks/wheels/football all shot perfectly head on then I tend to cheat and not expand the whole way since as the guys say the results are ******, just enough to get away with, landscapes etc are distorted at the lense so…

More so if you’re only using an 8bit dve, also be carefull with framing, mathematical arcing tends to be cruel, usually you’ll need to drop the target down in frame…If you have a proper budget then snell etc make great devices which will arc with far greater quality, though generaly not keyframeable over time.
