I have a number of programs I have to make exactly 26:46. I ususally end up with more time and have to cut. Is there a way to put some sort of indication at the end of the video so Vegas can tell me at a glance what the ending time is without scrolling to the end of the program to find out every few minutes where I stand?

    Drop a marker at 26:46.
Then you’ll always know where the end is.

And remember you can shorten or lengthen a clip by holding ctrl and moving one end if you don’t want to cut something but want to squeeze it in.

The marker will move as I eliminate clips so that doesn’t seem to work for me.

I guess I’ve not been clear. I ususally have to cut 3 or 4 minutes away from my 26:46 shows. So I cut a clip or two and then I have to scroll to the end of my timeline a place my mouse on the end in order to see exactly the time the show ends. It requires that I do this over and over until I cut enough but it’s tedious.
Is there something that gives me the total time(as I cut)without me having to scroll down there every minute to find out?

You’re not wanting to use the keyboard shortcut for Go To End? (CTRL + Right Arrow)

I have a special Custom Command I wrote specifically for editing our church services in Vegas Pro 8. One of the features it has is telling me exactly how long the current service is and how much over/under the desired time it is. Outside 5 seconds over/under, this turns red – within my acceptable range, it turns green.

Sounds like you’re wanting something similar to that. I can tell at a glance how long the project is and how much over/under I am without ever having to scroll anywhere on the timeline!

That script sounds like what I need. Can you point me to the script? Thanks

Also thank you Douglas Spotted Eagle for the shortcut tip. I didn’t know that one.

It’s not a publicly available custom command and is very specialized for my church service editing. E-mail me and I’ll discuss with you what it might take to convert it to something you can use.
