End Credit Scroll
Having a bear of time trying to do this – do others have the same issues?
I’ve copied and pasted text into the canvas. However it would repeatedly get distorted after an undo. Even simply closing and opening the program would cause corruption in the appearance. Finally just typing everything from scratch SEEMS (I hope) to fix the issue.
Next question: Because there are 4 different text elements, plus a graphic logo, I thought just grouping and adding a single scroll up behavior would do the trick. However I’m not able to do so, and adding multiple behaviors doesn’t seem to be the solution. The end credit credits should last about 30-35 seconds. Any suggestions?

I’d do it instead as a very tall file in Photoshop. Then you can get the type set and spacing perfect and you just place that into Motion and animate it moving up.

Thanks Noah. What pixel size dimensions should the file be in PS?

Well it depends whether you’re working NTSC or PAL, HD or SD, 16:9 or 4:3. Basically you want the proper width of your resolution x whatever height is needed to show all of the credits. So let’s say I’m working 4:3 NTSC SD. Then I’d want an image that was 720 pixels wide x however tall needed to get all the credits in there in Photoshop. Maybe it’s 720×2000 or whatever, you’ll eye ball it in Photoshop.

Hey Noah – yeah, I had pretty much had done that last night and it worked great, so many thanks.
One question though – I’ve had a break from FCP 5 & Motion 2 for awhile and am not getting back into it deeply with Suite 2. Not to belabor the point, but is Motion 3, with all it’s new features, really not up to the task of doing a simple title crawl? I guess I’m a bit surprised…

The problem is as with many titlers- it’s not easy to do complex type layouts the way you want to have them all justified to center and all that in the Motion interface. It’s great for simple titles but becomes tricky when you’ve got something like a long crawl. I prefer to set them up in Photoshop because I can see exactly where everything is going.
