I’ve spent several hours creating menus and linking chapters for a 90 min show in Encore CS4. When I start the BUILD process, Encore crashes.

Check Project says I have two menu “orphan timelines” and shows that little blue icon. In my Menu menu, I have the 2 menus with the little orange icon. In Timeline menu I have 4 items, first play, program and 2 menus. My 2 menus are motion background menus. Do they need to be timelines?

What else can be causing Encore to crash when I start the BUILD?

    Thanks.

I have found Encore to eat memory for lunch. My workflow that has drastically reduced crashes has been to do most of the authoring, rebooting occasionaly before real trouble (usually it is slow to respond and screen sometimes goes white momentarily). When finished with authoring, I reboot and transcode files. I reboot then I build. I have quad core and 4Gig RAM on PC and all latest updates. This workflow may or may not help in your specific case … I don’t believe it will hurt. My crashes at build time were always due to it transcoding during the build. Other crashes were related to Nvidia drivers not being up-to-date.

Well, I have 16GB or RAM and a GeForce 8800GT card. I did get a “save now, running low memory” message. I had nothing else running. How can this be?

All my files are pre-transcoded so Encore doesn’t have to do that. This is my 4th Encore project with 2 or more motion menus. I’ve also done about 6 without any menus. All with no problem until now. Is it my project? Did something change on my system?

I’m running tests now to see if its the project or software/hardware issue.

    Thanks,

Wow – The only thing I can think of is to remedy all “check project” errors. I assume your software is up-to-date and all your assets are set to “Don’t Transcode”. As far as memory – I believe that is an issue within the software. I really want Adobe to work harder in their efforts to keep improving Encore.

I just ran those tests. Projects with no menus went through fine. Projects with menus crash. So something changed. When the last project went through OK and now it does not………….!! And it starts right after Encore goes into the Build process.

I just download the current updates for CS4 and this time Encore did not crash. I’ve got to do another one later today. Hope I get the same results.
