Encore Copy Protection

An ISO file will not contain the copy protection info. It’s possible your replication facility can add it in using your image, but you will have to find that out.

I am not familiar with Encore, but in DVDSP you can export to a DDP2.0 file flagged for CSS Encryption and this creates the same file structure as going to a DLT. You can put the DDP2.0 file on a hard drive, DVD-Rom, flash drive, etc.

There was a thread in the DVD Authoring forum a week or two back discussing this topic. Most replicators will take a DDP2.0 file if you ask.

I am having the same problem.. I was able to make with older versions of Encore both “1 gen copy permitted” and “no copy permitted” DVDs (direct burn, no ISO image) but this seems not more possible. Any ideas why?

Copy Protection is not possible with burned dvd’s, only pressed discs. You might have been checking the little box for it in Encore, but it had no effect on the burned disc.

This is not quite entirely true. There are actually a small handful of options available to add copy protection to burned DVDs. And to be honest, some of them offer more protection than CSS on a manufactured DVD. CSS was cracked over a decade ago and is easily overcome with most basic ripping and copying tools.

I offer a form of copy protection called Rimage Video Protect. I’ve talked about it a few times here on the cow, so I won’t duplicate the information here, but if you search for it you should find it. I can offer the RVP on video DVDs with no minimum order quantity. Just like everything else, it is not 100% and nothing ever will be, but it works the best I have seen of anything on the market.

Thanks…. But at present my aim is not to find the best uncopiable format but just to find out why with other softwares (I think older versions of encore) I could do it and not now… I’m sure it worked.. because I couldn’t copy.. I know many softwares are able to take away CSS and other “simple” methods.. still I’m not aiming at the perfect disk.. just trying to get my software to work properly..

By the way.. speaking with a friend who does weddings.. he told me.. what he does is to record 15 extra black minutes at the end of the video and then to tick on the edge between recorded and not recorded data with a soldering iron !!! 🙂 Haven’t tried it yet!
