Can anyone offer up the best solution for Encoding to HD ProRes HQ with a PC. I would be willing to explore both free and pay options. I have heard of FFmpeg and Clipster. I am wondering what the opinion is of these and others from you fellow Vegas users.

I realize there are comparable codecs (DNxHD). However, this is a non-negotiable client issue.

ProRes is a Mac-only format and there’s no way to render to it from any PC with any codec.

Clipster will do it. But it is very expensive.. it would be cheaper to buy a mac.

Tell the client that you can give him an Avid DNxHD file.

Thank you for your input, Stephen. Believe it or not, I tried that. I even used the word Avid when I talked to them.

If you have clients that require ProRes they you need to invest in a Mac. If it’s just one client, then find someone who will encode the file for you. Otherwise, you need acquire the tools that your client expects you to have. You can get a MacMini for $599 and just use it to encode ProRes files. It has a Core i5 Dual Core 2.3GHz and is actually a nice computer (I just bought one not too long ago).
