    hi there,

i have a 43 minute .avi clip that i tried to import to encore, but it didn’t let me because it wasn’t 720 by something. so i imported the clip on pp2 and when i encoded it dvd2-mpeg it worked out perfect, but the file size was 2.2 gig.

i need like 3 of these clips to fit on each dvd on encore. what settings should i put it so that it won’t be too large the output file?

    the original clip settings ar:

    video —
    data rate: 9kbps
    total bitrate: 141kbps
frame rate: 23 fps (even though when i convert i use 29.97 or should i leave it at 23 fps?)

    audio–
    bitrate:132kbps

any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Providing you use Encore to author and encode the audio as Dolby, 129 minutes = 3900 kbps video bitrate for a single layer disc. That is pretty low quality unless you use Dual layer discs.
If you insist on cramming that much on a single layer disc, choose 2 pass VBR…max= 6mbps, average= 3.9 mbps, min = 2.5 kbps.

    thanks mike,

i’m going to try the 2 pass vbr and see if that helps. i only have single layer discs.

    hey mike,

i did that… the audio and the video didn’t sync right… i had to use mpeg for audio because for dolby it said i only had 3 trials to use it… and if i chose pcm or pci, that would bump the file size to 1.6 gigs, x 3 wouldn’t give me enough to burn 3 clips in one dvd…

would you know why the audio and video won’t sync? in the original clip they sync fine…

    thanks in advance,

    vin.

Mpeg 1 layer 2 audio is not part of the NTSC DVD specs and while it works at times, sometimes not or well.
Do you have Encore? It will reencode the PCM to Dolby.

i have encore, i tried PCM, but it gives the file size at 1.6, and three of those wont fit =/ ahh…

if i buy dual layer discs, will it work? and would any dvd player play dual discs AND would any dvd burner record them?

lol 3 back to back questions… thanks mike!

Use Encore..give it PCM and it will transcode to Dodly automatically.
Dual layer discs do have a bit more compatibility issues than single layer discs.
It all comes down to compromises.
