Encoded AVI contrast/brightness
After I encode some AVI footage using the builtin MainConcept encoder I’ve noticed that the output mpg has had it’s contrast/brightness increased so much so that in some over exposed scenes the picture just becomes a bright blur. Checked this against the original source and although as I mentioned the source is over exposed the encoded footage seems to makes this much much worse. I’ve not used any video effects on the footage and turned off all filters when encoding so anybody out there have any ideas as to what is going on.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dont have this problem with several OHCI systems…What type of hardware are you using? Are you previewing Pro’s timeline to the same TV as your DVD?

I’m using a P4 3.4Ghz system with 1gb of DDR400 RAM and 2 160gb SATA HDDs. I don’t have a TV connected so am simply viewing using the preview window but the end result ie the DVD I’m viewing using my DVD player on my TV.
I’ve checked and rechecked the footage and I definately haven’t applied any contrast/brightness correction but am stumped as to why the encoded footage would have it’s brightness altered.

I find that my PC monitors are considerably darker than my TV. I would not think of editing video (for TV) without previewing Pro’s timeline om an TV. Lots of other issues besides levels…safe colors, font, safe areas, filed issues, etc. A TV is a different animal than a PC monitor.
