Anyone have any ideas how I can alter the same 15-second HD clip to have the look of footage from each decade since the 60s? Are there filters or plugins for FCP you know of (or Motion) that will help shortcut parts of this task?

I have a pretty clear image of the look for the 60s and 70s and present, but I’m not sure what to do to designate the 80s and 90s.

Here are some ideas so far:

60s – The 16mm “hippies in a field” type of footage. Grainy, maybe extra warm color, some scratches, rough edits, maybe some leader showing…

70s – Closer to normal color, but lower saturation. Some graininess but not as much as 60s. Smoother edits but nothing fancy

    80s – Not sure.

90s – Perhaps a grunge look. Something along the lines of the opening animation to the film “Seven”

    00s – Slick. Bluish-tint. Intricate edits. Flashes.

Any pointers on ready-made filters or plugins to help with achieving the look with the footage, or do-it-yourself tips, or ideas on editing and style would be greatly appreciated!

All of this is very easy with Color. There are now 90 pre built “looks” that you can download from Apple’s site for use in Color 1.0.4 or 1.5.

andrew kramer at videocopilot has a filmlook package that has specific 60’s 70’s and 90’s filters. For After Effects only I think.
