I’m trying to re-create a Praxis-style explosion (I know it’s been done before, but it’s what the client wants!). I’ve got my expanding ring and have created a standard emitter (not TP, which I don’t have) to trail sparks behind, except the emitter won’t work – even though I have placed it in an expanding array the particles simple appear in the middle, not from the emitters.

    Any ideas?

The standard particle system does not work in that case. It emits it’s particles in absolute worldspace and is unable to see MoGraph’s stuff. You have to think of another solution (or buy TP). ;o)

Thanks M, I had a feeling that might be the case.

Well, TP is out of my price range right now, so off I go to find another solution!

If you’re on a PC you might try Darksim’s Simbiont plugin. It comes with a pretty good plasma ring explosion material. One thing to be aware of is that the plugin won’t work with r10, and apparently won’t for some time.

Emitters don’t work directly in Mograph, but there’s an excellent tutorial at C4D how to make them work simply by using XP and the Data Node and global matrix. FYI. Right now it’s at the bottom of the home page of http://www.c4dcafe.com .
