Is there any way to change the size of an emitter’s images to 720 x 480(or 486) or at least in that ratio? All that I see are options that either crop or stretch my image. Thanks for any help.

You can try importing it as stretch, and then once you’ve activated the shape, right-click on Size in the emitter’s hierarchy, and uncheck the Lock Aspect option. That will allow you to resize the particles independantly on the X and Y until the image is back to 720×480.

Note that you should not use particle shapes that large unless the particles themselves will be that large. If the particles will be 100 x 100 pixels on the screen, then using a 512 x 512 shape image is both a waste of memory, and will result in lower-than-expected image quality.
