  • Emergency help please! – Stutter problem on DVD

(Also posted this on DVDSP forum)

A client brought in her new Canon DC20 camcorder… it records onto small DVD-Rs. She had recorded a basketball game using the camcorder’s DVD-VR mode (which supposedly lets you do so editing after the fact to the footage). She was having problems getting in ino her computer for editing, so she brought it to me and I brought it into FCP through through the analog out connectors. All looked great on my external NTSC monitor. After creating an m2v file of it and authoring it to DVD in DVDSP, it plays back stuttery – like a reversed fields stutter. I tried changing the field order in FCP and re-outputing to DVD, but the flicker is still there!

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am supposed to have 16 DVDs for her to pick up today!

Use Compressor to create your m2V but make sure it’s truly set for Lower Field First on the video field order. I believe it can default to either progressive or Upper Field. I always manually change the setting and then set it back to Lower Field to ensure it’s truly rendering that way.
