I have a festival deadline for an hour long HDV (1440 x 1080) sequence and want to export it to DVcam. The preview that shows up is stretched out lengthwise to make it super-widescreen and then it is not recording onto the deck, which is in working order. Do I need to change system settings or something? I am working from FCS 2 and have an octocore MAcPro. 4gigs ram.

    create a new DV sequence.

drop the HDV footage into that Sequence.

when fcp asks to change the sequence to match
    the HDV footage click no.

    render it out.

    edit to tape.

It won’t look as nice as converting it with compressor with the resize settings set to full quality but it will get the job done.

another option is to use quicktime conversion to downconvert it to SD Letterbox, that will look better than having fcp scale it, but again not quite as nice as compressor doing it with resizing set to best.

I’ve had problems with compressor. My DVD export crashed the last two times i’ve done it. But what are the settings to do it in compressor. do you think the quality difference is enough to notice? This is important?

just use one of the presets to convert it
and set the quality on high.
