    Urgent question.

What is the best way to downconvert an XDCAM 60i sequence to letterboxed SD using PP CS3? It has to be done this way. There is no time to use another application.

    Thanks.

create a SD project. Place the clip on the SD time. Use the motion controls to size the project to fit the frame.

    Andy,

Thanks for your swift response. I’ve actually used this technique before, but I do have a question.

In order to have the SD files in 4×3, is it better to:

A: Import the HD files into a 16×9 SD project, scale them down to fit, and then export the resized files as a 4×3 AVI.

    or

B: Import the HD files into a 4×3 SD project, scale them down to fit, and then export the resized files as a 4×3 AVI?

    or does it not matter?

I would do B. If your final output is 4:3, then use a 4:3 DV timeline.

    I would do neither.
Choose your project settings the same as your footage and make it into letterbox in the AME.

I haven’t had much luck with AME. I’ve tried many combos of settings in AME with lousy results. What settings do you use in AME?

    Thanks.
