El Cheapo Shared Storage for ProRes (LT)
Okay, so I couldn’t believe it when my tech-head young director showed me his setup: A fast hardware raid unit (can’t remember name, but maybe that Maxx thing) and one MacPro sharing the drives with a MacBookPro via ethernet by turning on filesharing. I was cutting ProResHQ and he was doing some selecting and audio work and who knows what else. I’m used to Avid Mediashare and the high price tag. But this setup worked great for two people on Final Cut, at least for both to be able to play the same material- (I miss MediaShare for a lot of other reasons).
My question- would this setup work using say, a G-Tech 4TB G-Raid via eSATA or FW800 if we’re cutting ProRes LT? This would be for me and my assistant, both of us on MacPros.

Two seats only, yes. Beyond that you’re into a whole ‘nother level of cost and complexity.
