October 1, 2015 at 8:12 amFor anyone running the most recent version of Resolve, particularly after doing a clean, fresh install of El Capitain, something to be aware of. I got a message during setup to check system requirements due to the OS X version. The software did install and was able to start a new project. Did no further testing. Fusion, however, installed without issue.
I have noticed a significant improvement in boot up time with El Capitain and most software does have faster load time. One issue was installing Garage Band, perhaps this is a temporary issue. I was not able to install that.
Oliver has sound advice. Anytime there is a new kid on the block it is best to proceed with caution. My safety plan is an external USB drive with Yosemite, most recent version, as plan B, not taking any risk.
Holding off installing Photoshop until I know it is supported.

October 1, 2015 at 1:33 pmIs software RAID creation still supported in Disk Utility? Are software RAIDs previously created still recognized in EC?

October 1, 2015 at 8:10 pmHi Steve
Adobe users should be aware of this message from Al Mooney regarding Premiere Pro:
https://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2015/10/premiere-pro-cc-and-mac-os-x-10-11-el-capitan.html
“We are aware of some issues users of Premiere Pro may experience after upgrading to the latest version of Mac OS X, (‘El Capitan’), OS X 10.11. We are working hard to resolve these issues in an forthcoming release but currently recommend users remain on OS X 10.10.x.”
From our point of view at Hawaiki, we have checked all our plug-ins for El Capitan compatibility and have recently released updates to Hawaiki Keyer, AutoSplit, AutoMatch and Analyzer which incorporate new code to accommodate the update. However, due to changes in the Apple Core Image framework, performance may be degraded in certain configurations. In particular, you may see a very significant performance slowdown if you are running a late 2013 Mac Pro. As a precaution, we recommend you hold off updating to El Capitan for now.

October 3, 2015 at 1:53 pmBased on the system requirements for Metal, it would appear that even if Apple releases a Metal-enabled update of FCPX, it won’t benefit any of us still running Mac Pro towers.

Correct. I posted that earlier. Mac Pro towers are not supported.

Do you think an old MP with a new video card would work unofficially or do you think Apple has coded Metal to exclude the old MP even if they have a video card superior to the ones listed?
On one hand Apple opened the doors to a wider variety of 3rd party GPUs with Mavericks (though they aren’t fully supported), but on the other hand Apple has code OS X to prevent any Mac that shipped with an optical drive to be able to use the Apple USB SuperDrive.

October 4, 2015 at 12:50 amThere is a thread on MacRumors that has speculation and some testing on the subject of Tower Mac Pros with various graphics cards and Metal. Also a test app you can run (at your own risk, but looks OK) to test for Metal capability. Requires El Capitan to run. General consensus seems to be it depends on the GPU. Apple stated anything after 2012 would work and the 2012 5,1 Mac Pro is essentially the same as the 2010. That being said, the 2012 5,1 is not on the official list. I’m sure we will hear of more experiments shortly.
