I’m pretty sure they’re UB. I installed the free trial of CS3 but it won’t let you install the 3rd party effects without out a new serial number. I’ll have to wait until the disk gets here.

adobe mentions inclusion of those effects with cs3, but there is no mention if they are ub or not (which makes me think that they are ub, other wise adobe would would have a note somewhere). i couldn’t find any mention from cycore or the foundry about ub, except a note about the previously bundled versions of cc effects (non mach-0) had issues with intel macs, and they recommended upgrading to the hd versions.

adobe does have a note that opengl acceration is not currently available for mac, neither powerpc or intel macs…

i thought it was a little interesting that it doesn’t work in either the powerpc or the x86 versions. if opengl worked in ppc native ae7, why wouldn’t they leave it in for cs3 ppc?

it would seem that perhaps apple asked them disable it on the older macs version to eliminate arguments not to upgrade to a new mac…

I have installed AE CS3 and indeed the Open GL will NOT enable. I’m running an 8-core intel with a Radeon XT 1900. The software does suggest installing the latest drivers for the card but I am hesitant to do so without Apple’s “blessing”.

The card does works fine in Open Gl in both Cinema 4D and Zaxwerks (ub version).

BTW, the software comes with all the Cycore plug-ins that AE 7 had in addition to Keylight v1.2 and Color Finesse 2.

To be more specific regarding OpenGL, here’s what the dialog says when you try to enable it in the AE preferences…

“OpenGL acceleration is not currently supported on this version of Mac OS. Please go to http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_ae_openglsupport for current information about OpenGL hardware support”

Looks like Apple will have to supply some kernel changes to satisfy AE. Hopefully 10.5 will solve this problem if not a sooner update.

mylenium, in adobe’s ae forum, confirmed that the 3rd party bundled effects are intel-mac friendly…
