I thought I’d see many posts about this by now but so far I haven’t found one. In newer versions of Avid, I’m guessing somewhere after 8.4, there’s an odd behaviour where if you create a title, or use an image with a matte key on it, or do almost anything on your timeline that involves segments having what avid would class as effects used on them, the clip instance with the effect shows up in the effects menu as a preset or something.

It seems to be on a per-project basis, thankfully, but it’s weird. If you go to the effects palette and have ‘all’ selected as the category, as it is by default, then the list is completely cluttered with hundreds of titles, the name of every single image in the project that has a matte key, just tons of junk. There doesn’t seem to be anyway to stop this happening that I can find and I can’t understand how it would be beneficial.

Can I turn this behaviour off? Also, is there some benefit to this happening that I’m not aware of that might make it desirable?
