I have tried to place transitions/ effect onto my timeline but program won’t respond. The effect will be highlighted, but I can’t drag it anywhere. It’s like it’s frozen. I’ve tried highlighting the clip I want the effect to be applied, and nothing happens.

Any suggestions as to what I should do would greatly be appreciated

Transitions have to be placed in one of two ways.

Between two clips on the same video track. You have to ensure there is enough tail on the outgoing clip and enough leader on the incoming clip for the transition to take. In other words, you have to have some pad on either end of the clips for the transition to work. You single click on the edit between the two clips, then go to Effects > Video Transitions > Select the transition you want.

You can place the transition on the head or tail of a single clip on its own video track. You single click on the head or tail of the clip and again Effects > Video Transitions > Select the effect.

Alternatively, you can go into the Effects tab of your browser and drag the transition to the appropriate location.

With the Effects, you double click the clip into the Viewer, then apply your effect. Simply highlighting the clip in the timeline won’t do anything.

Or again, drag the Effect from the Effects tab onto the clip.
