Effecting Scale values of an object or multiple objects with a ramp.
I am looking for a way to incorporate the ideas of Cinema 4D’s Effectors. I would like to be able to use a ramp layer to drive values of other objects, be it Position, Scale, Rotation, etc. Maybe I can plug the 0-255 white values of a ramp into the values of the other objects?
For Example:
Have a group of objects with that scale up from 35-85% as a hidden ramp animates in space underneath them.
Is there a way to do this?

Yes, you could, via expressions. You’d use sampleImage() to read the ramp, and interpolation functions like linear() and ease() to map its output values to your animation input values.
I think there are better (and faster-to-render) ways, though. You could build your own rigs using the controls found in Expression Controls. You can link parameters directly very easily with the pickwhip [link], or again, you can use more involved expressions.

The sampleImage Expression will do this quite nicely. There are a few examples at the COW’s AE Expressions Forum. Search for sampleImage and go through the results.
