  • Effected Still Preview looks different from rendered version FCP 7.0.3

I’m at a new job… with a new computer with FCP 7.0.3. I’m trying to color correct some footage in the timeline using 3-way CC. eyeball the footage and use the sliders to take the blacks down until right before losing detail and the whites up… using the Canvas preview. Then when I render, it renders out darker than what I was just seeing. I can’t figure out what is happening. This never happened on any other FCP I’ve used. I have a computer at home and used FCP at my old job. Neither have done this. Any suggestions?

Sorry… I’m working with H.264 from a Canon T2i. This was the first time in a while that I edited footage straight from the camera. Usually I convert it to ProRes first, but I didn’t think I had time for that with this project.

    I KNEW IT!!!

And now you see why you need to convert to ProRes before you edit. FCP and H.264 don’t mix. And you even knew better, but did this anyway! 🙂

Want to edit native without converting? Get PRemiere Pro.

I had an inkling that might be the problem, but wasn’t sure. Thanks for the confirmation.
