  • Effect question, about bevel edge to jpeg still after cropping

Posted by Dan Riley on October 17, 2007 at 8:36 pm

I have a series of still jpeg shots that I first have to resize and crop.
Then I want them to have a bevel edge over another background.
The problem is, when I drop the bevel border filter on the jpeg clip,
it only will bevel the edge of the jpeg, not the cropped result.
I’ve tried using a CGM 3d filter to squeeze the shot and crop it,
but then the FCP bevel filter puts a bevel on the entire raster around
the edge of the frame. Does anyone know how I can bevel the edge
of a shot after it’s been cropped?

    Thanks
    Dan

That’s the way it works in FCP. You’ll need to crop the photos in Photoshop. While you’re at it, you may as well add the bevel there too.

This plug-in is what you are looking for if you want to do the cropping in FCP.

Danrw, You’re going to find lots of filters don’t behave like you think they should. I don’t thinik anyone has ever successfully rationalized how the FCP coders decided to put effects AFTER cropping but we’re stuck with it and, since we’ve been screaming about it since v1, it doesnt seem likely to change soon.

You can “easily” nest the cropped images, though, to a new layer and apply your bevel to the smaller layer. However, it really is easier to crop and apply stylization in another application.
