  • Effect on Source clip *with mask*

    Hi all,

I’m trying to apply a Lumetri grade to a source clip (which is used maaaany times throughout my timeline) with a mask applied to this. Unfortunately I can’t figure out a way to do this or a work around.

The reason I want to do this is because the left side of my shot is darker than the right, so I’d like to brighten it.

I can’t do this with a simple adjustment layer, as often in my timeline, I use this clip zoomed in, so you *only* see the left or right side of it.

Probably on reflection the best thing to do would have been to nest the clip before I started editing, and then I could just use an adjustment layer within the nest. But… sadly I didn’t have this foresight and just assumed that source clip effects could also be masked!

Looking forward to any clever tips!

    Thanks,

    Adam

Have you tried going to the Window -> Lumetri Color, checked it and have it appear on the right side of your Premiere Pro screen? There you can play around with the Lumetri Settings like Intensity, Sharpen, Vibrance, etc. to see what works best for your clip direct. I just select a clip I want to apply the Lumetri settings and see how it looks better. Below the Lumetri settings, you will find a curves, color wheels, HSL Secondary and Vignette tabs. Hope it helps!

Applying Lumetri is no problem. The challenge is applying it to the source clip (so it will apply to all the clips in the timeline from one particular source) with a mask applied to it.

It seems you can’t apply masks to source clip effects in Premiere.

perhaps if you remove original file from its location, open it separately and apply lumetri effect either render it or save as pr project and then in your main project replace missing clip with the color corrected one, either the render or import the project and replace.

Sometime with issues like this, I do everything needed to a copy of the source clip, then export as a new clip and swap it out with the original. If they’re the same file type you can add “old” to the name of the original, give the original name to the modified clip, save and reopen the project. Instant global swap!
