  • EDL via E-mail – How do you do this succesfully?

The workflow thus far has been this:

I took a hard drive that had the FCP project file and all media home to work on the project. I transferred the whole folder over to my hard drive on my computer and returned the external hard drive. Now I have a completed project on my computer. The videographer I work for has the external hard drive with all of the original media at his office.

How can I send him my EDL via e-mail so that he can just reconnect the media and be good to go? Please be very specific. I’ve tried this question on this forum before and we never got it to work properly even with all of the wonderful advice received.

    Thanks for your time.

    Jason

Why send an EDL? Send him a your FCP project file. Oh, and use stuff it so it doesn’t get corrupted when traveling over the Internet.

You should probably send a Final Cut project file, rather than an EDL.

However, when going through email, information is often lost on an attachment, and it may not be recognized as a final cut pro project when it arrives.

To avoid this, I would compress the project. To do this, select the project from the operating system, and control click. Then choose “create archive”. This will create a compressed file. At the receiving end, the file will uncompress, and the other editor will have the complete project file.

Finally, once the media is relinked, everything should work fine.
