I am color correcting a film cut on Final cut in a Symphony. Because of client fear of “things being lost in the conversion to Avid” via Automatic Duck a Digibeta was made of the Completed film, which I am now going to digitize into the Avid.

What is the best way to utilize the EDL in order to make segments out of the digitized digibeta? I need all the notches or cuts where there are cuts in the original edits

Use this method courtesy of bsuttie in the Avid forums..

I knew someone was going to ask that !

OK, very useful if you have a finished master and a copy of the sequence and you want to digitise the master and subdivide it for colour correction etc. (you can also make the sequence from an EDL if you have that instead).

If your sequence is on V1, digitise your master and lay it on V2 in sync.

Add the “Reformat” “Pan and Scan” effect to V2 – note not Pan and Zoom !

Select both V1 and V2 tracks

Go into effect editor and in Pan and Scan actions select “subdivide effect” This will subdivide your master into clips based on the V1 sequence.

Remove the pan and scan effect.

I received an EDL from a standard def sequence with a fps of 23.98.

I have imported a quicktime output from Final Cut which is my picture. I plan on using the EDL info to create the notches where the cuts should be on the imported full res quicktime. The file imported at 29.97, I dont seem to have a 24 fps option in the Avid Nitrus, or do I?

Is there a way to do this? What is the proper way to import the EDL? The sequence I get seems to be 6 minutes long. I asked for a CMX 3600 EDL.

    Dude,
    this totally rocks!
(i’ve made an application that can detect cuts in finished masters, and i always had to go a clumsy route to get the EDL it outputs to link to the video, as for some strange reason avid refuses to link about 5% of the shots)
