EDL Manager not opening EDL
Posted by Victor Vazquez on September 12, 2014 at 3:27 amHello,
I’m trying to bring an Apple Color clip into AVID as an EDL and for some reason the EDL Manager is saying “The file is not valid and can’t be opened.” Have you ever run into this issue when working with EDL’s and AVID? Do you know of any fixes?
Thanks!

September 12, 2014 at 11:24 amWhat EDL type did you export from Apple Color (did not know it exported EDLs), CMX? If so, which flavor of CMX? Does it have a .edl extension?

September 12, 2014 at 10:14 pmIt says: Avid 3400 EDL File. And it is an .edl extension.

Thanks,

September 13, 2014 at 4:34 amAre you rendering a timeline in Color as a single clip or a clip for every event? What are you rendering to codec wise?

September 13, 2014 at 1:56 pmIf you don’t want to send out a single “flattened file”, it’s probably better to Send to FCP, then use Automatic Duck to get to Avid.
Honestly, Color has been discontinued for years. Probably better to start your transition to using Resolve on your next project, as there is a real workflow in place for that. Color never had a bulletproof workflow to go to anything else but FCP.

September 13, 2014 at 10:00 pmYeah, since Color is Apple as well I had a feeling it was more compatible with FCP and the two work nicely together. Resolve is definitely the way to go. Thanks.

September 13, 2014 at 10:04 pmI’m rendering as a single clip in Color and I think they render to ProRes. One work around I was able to do when rendering a single clip was go into the Color Documents -> Renders folder and get the file and drag it into the AVID project. I’m not sure if there are other ways to bring the rendered clips into AVID from Color. Thanks.

September 13, 2014 at 10:10 pmYou can render your clips to a folder and then AMA link to them using the QuickTime AMA plug-in from within Media Composer.
