EDL from FCP -> AE CS3
Posted by Karim Cherif on June 21, 2008 at 12:15 pmHey People
We shot some stuff in front of greenscreen and I did the edit in FCP. So now I want to take all this in AE and do some keying. I could render it out first through FCP and bring into AE, but I thought it is best to export an EDL and import it into AE.But AE doesn’t do this. 🙁
Is there a workaround for this?
Please let me know.Thanks.

June 21, 2008 at 1:21 pmHi,
Automatic Duck does a very good job of translating the timeline.
https://www.automaticduck.com/products/
I just started using it last week and I am quite happy with the results. It is a bit pricy, but considering it took a few seconds to do what took me a couple hours to do previously, what you save in time makes up for thee cost.
I believe if you want to translate the AE timeline back to FCP, you would need to buy another version of Automatic Duck so if you need a great deal of flexibility, it can be quite costly, but again, the speed gain may be worth the cost.
Hope this helps,
Lars

June 21, 2008 at 4:09 pmIn Case anyone wants to know later on… I found this script that does what I wanted. And it is free. You just need to export XML from FCP.
And install this script in the AE\Scripts folder:
