  • EDL EXPORT… Need HELP ASAP

Posted by Steven Escobar on September 15, 2005 at 8:56 am

I’m trying to export an EDL from my finished sequence. All my tapes and timecode are correct in my project but when I export the EDL, somehow all the timecodes are way off. For example I have a tape NS017 with an hour 17. The EDL says it is 21 hour and the rest of the timecode is off.

Am I doing something wrong? I did set-up this project in cinema tools since it was shot on Super16 and transferred to HDCAM but I’m using clone DVCAMs.

    Anyone ever had this problem?

    Thanks

I had a somewhat similar problem before. What I did is the to switch the Sorting to “Source, Audio merged” instead of “Master, audio merged”.

if you have speed change, then can also corrupt the timecode. You can either rebuild it or remove speed changes entirely.

Is there a way to rebuild the speed changes? What do I do? I do have some speed changes in the sequence.

is the timecode problematic with those speed change?

to “rebuild” the speed change, place the timeline cursor on the clip you wish to replace, hit the x key, then the f key, and then SHIFT+F11 (fit to fill).

I found that when you do a speed change to a clip and then reedit it on the timeline, it sometimes gets messed up. And of course, never use variable speed change when exporting EDLs.

I tried taking out the clips with the speed changes and started a new sequence but I’m still getting timecode that is about 2-3 hours off. It seems to start at tape 10. My flex file was labeled with a tape number NS001 and so on. Does that have anything to do with it? Because I’m fine until about NS010.

I’m pulling my hair just trying to figure it out.

are you using CMX3600? CMX340 format doesn’t allow letters in tape reel. and I always had more success with 3600.

Check the logging and timing infos in the offending clips. I don’t have any more ideas…
