When I import and EDL and try to link media to offline clips, I lose the in and out point data. It always just starts the clip at the beginning.

    Here is what I’m doing:

I have a project with one sequence and a clip named “XYZ.avi”. The sequenced is edited so XYZ’s in point is 00;00;02;00 and its out point is 00;00;03;00. Thus the whole sequence length is 00;00;01;00.

I choose File>Export>Export to EDL and go with the default settings:
    Start Timecode: 00;00;00;00
    Drop Frame: yes
    Include Video Levels: yes
    Include Audio Levels: yes
    Audio Processing: Audio Follows Video

Then I import the EDL and everything looks fabulous. XYZ.avi is of course offline, but the project panel shows it having the correct in and out points. I right click XYZ.avi and choose “Link Media…” I select the XYZ.avi file in the browser. It then loses its in and out point information and instead plays from 00;00;00;00 to 00;00;00;01;00.

If I just put XYZ.avi in the bin, right click the offline footage in the timeline, and choose Replace With Clip>From Bin, it puts the clip in, but Premiere promptly crashes. Alas.

Any ideas how to get this to work?

I know usually with an EDL you batch capture the offline footage, but in my case I just want to relink the digital files. I’m experimenting with building an AIR application that writes EDLs.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Mike
