Need help mastering to DVCAM. I know that I can’t generate TC in DV over firewire, but how can I master to tape without I/O card/box? FCP doesn’t recognize TC striped onto my tape. I’m trying to go firewire DV straight into deck from MBP. Every time I try it aborts and breaks TC.
If I striped/timecoded the tape from a different video source, does it matter? Been in tapeless mode for the last few years, don’t miss going out to tape!
Thanks in advance for your responses!

    A Sony DSR-45 doesn’t “edit” does it?

It can only “crash record” (which with DV usually looks petty clean, however.)

To control a record deck to match-up to a Timecode pre-roll you must use the RS422 for deck control and not FireWire.

Don’t know…but if that’s the case, I need an I/O box to output to this tape deck. They told me it can be controlled through firewire but I don’t know.
    Thanks!

Just pre-stripe the tape with TC and then use Edit to Tape via FireWire. The DSR-45 will do that.

    thanks Kevin,
when I try to assemble edit, the tape cues up properly, then hard cuts into the TC and stops, with “unable to locate requested timecode. Please verify that tape is timecoded correctly. I striped/coded the tape with a composite reference signal from another system, could that be my problem? Thanks in advance…

I might be mistaken, but I seem to remember the DSR-45 only being capable of frame-accurate insert editing when using RS422 deck control.

    Hi
My lesser-spec DSR decks do that IF I’ve forgotten to change the timecode setting back to Internal/Regen after doing the stripe.
