Editing Youtube’s automatic captions in Spanish
Hi, has anyone ever tried editing Youtube’s automatic captions, like the VTT or SRT files, in a text editor? I’m the sole video person at my employer, and get a lot of questions from non-video colleagues, particularly about Youtube nuances I don’t always know, as the keeper of the Youtube ‘keys’ here. This one group here has a ton of videos for which they want to create good/accurate Spanish captions. And they’re hoping they can either just tweak Youtube’s automatic caption-files, like the VTT or SRT ones (which I’d have to download and send them); and they’re also asking if it’s possible to add time stamps themselves to transcripts in Spanish they already have for some videos. Does anyone have any quick tips on this topic, web resources you’d recommend, or captioning services (if they’re willing to pay to outsource)? I just asked the captioning service I’ve used before, called Scribie, and they said they only do captions in English. This group does seem to have Spanish speakers in staff, too, and their goal is to find a way to do this themselves cheaply, with me possibly just downloading some existing automatic YT caption files, and sending them, then re-uploading their edited versions later; although I’m sure they’d consider outsourcing, if I could give them the name of a firm/website, as back-up option. When I open a VTT file in a text editor, it looks like this would be possible, but I’ve certainly never done that; and am not sure what to recommend them. I’d be grateful for any quick tips on this topic!
