    Hey there!

I’m using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 and I am working with three video tracks, Two of them will be in the widescreen 1280×720 but one will be in the standard size. My problem is that when I switch to the standard video size, you can still see what’s going on with the other video tracks at the extra space beside the standard video… is there any way I can black that out (i.e. make vertical letterbox bars)? Keeping the widescreen aspect ratio is important to me, and I don’t mind the black bars at the side of the standard video… but I just can’t seem to figure out how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How are you switching tracks? It sounds like you have 16:9 media below the 4:3 (standard size) media. Just remove the media on the track below it and it will not show through. Alternately, make the 4:3 media the bottom track so nothing is below it. You can also add black (or any other color) generated media below the 4:3 track to show though as the bars. Finally you can eliminate the bars by going into Pan/Crop for that event and right-clicking on the frame and select Match Output Aspect. This will crop top and bottom to make the sides match the 16:9 aspect of your project. Any one of these will fix your problem.

when I said “Switching tracks” I meant using the Track Composite Level envelopes. Moving the 4:3 video to the bottom track seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks for the help!

    You’re welcome. Glad that worked.
