Editing webcam videos
I have a client who is sending me many webcam videos that they want edited and subtitled. The videos look like they are wmv files at 15 frames per second. They are 640X480 in size. I’m used to editing in HD formats at 29.97 FPS.
I’m converting these to prores to edit, but my sequence settings seem to stay at 29.97, so the video is jittery. Can FCP 7 actually edit 15 fps? What should I convert these videos to? Timecode is important since we’re subtitling from foreign languages. What setting should I use?

Well, I wouldn’t be using FCP to cut this, for one. I’d fire up Premiere Pro. FCP only likes to cut broadcast formats…and this ain’t it. It isn’t even 720×480.
BUT…if I were to stick with FCP, I’d convert to DV50 progressive, 29.97fps. Yes, every other frame will repeat, no avoiding that. And then export that. But Premiere will allow you to edit 15fps, and export 15fps.
What is the ultimate destination?

This might be a good time to add FCPX on a laptop to your gear arsenal.
Failing that, have you tried Apple Compressor or MPEG Streamclip on this stuff?
