  • Editing Video Screen Capture in FCP resolution issues

    Hey guys,

I have been trying to record video screen capture on my machine. When I import the files into FCP it wants to render them. Being the adaptive and understanding individual I am, I comply, and alas my once beautiful and sharp resolution video turns to muck.

I have tried saving as various file formats incl: FCP uncompressed / Apple Intermediate Codec / Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2. I have used various programs like IShowU, Snapz and CaputreIt. So far Snapz seems to have the best result, but it is still having similar issues.

All the files seem to play fine in Quicktime but seem not to like FCP…?

    Any recommendations?

Well, if you want to edit these files in FCP, you need to record them, or transcode them, into a format that appears in the EASY SETUPS. if you don’t, then they will need need to be rendered. I record my tutorials as DVCPRO HD 720p60, adjusting my monitor size to 1280×800 to closely match the dimensions.

    Hi Shane,

Yes a good response although I found that where screens are very busy with small fonts I needed a considerably higher capture resolution and I used Apple ProRes 1920×1080 50i with good results. Do note though that you need a terrific amount of disc space at circa 1.2GB every 60 seconds!

    Regards
