Hi all. I will be teaching a smartphone filming/editing workshop with one of our teams that specifically want to do a very rough edit on their phone (some use iPhone, some use Android) and then send me the edit to further tweak in FCP. Thanks to another site I found the way to do that with iMovie on iOS. But I also need to find any video editing apps for Android that could export an edit in a format I could import into FCP (10.6.3) and relink the footage. I’ve google various things with XML, etc, but have come up with nothing so far. Any thoughts?

Perhaps one possibility might be LumaFusion which runs on Apple and (will run? not sure about the release) Android tablets. The Apple version can export FCPXML. You may want to check if the Android version (which is behind) can as well. It focuses on tablet use over phones but it’s the only place I can think of that might get you from Android to FCP.

Thanks Craig! This is a great suggestion! I have a copy of LumaFusion, love the app, but find it very challenging to maneuver on my iPhone. Still I love using it, when iMovie just doesn’t have what I want for a quick phone edit. I guess LumaFusion was ideally designed for the iPad.

I wish they had a button for “simple mode” to edit on iPhones, but with the ability to change to “advanced”. Unfortunately most of the in-house staff that go through our course would find LumaFusion daunting. However, thanks for bringing this to my attention. There are a few really techie staff that would love it. Will keep an eye out to see when it finally gets migrated over to Android. Didn’t realize they were doing that. I’m guessing there is an extra cost for the exporting option, FCPXML.
