  • Editing reel – how to copy all referenced footage to new project file?

Posted by Kate Perkins on July 14, 2011 at 10:19 pm

    Hi there –

I’m working on a new reel, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to move all the segments of media that I’m working on into one location. I opened up my old reel to add a few things in, and because everything is all over a bunch of different hard drives, I have a big chore ahead to reconnect all the media. Is it possible for FCP media manager to collect all the media that your timeline references into a new project file? I thought I had done this last time, but apparently failed to do it correctly. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kate,
Have a look to the “Copy” function in the “Media Manager”.

maybe you need to ask for a new project.

in Media Manager use these settings:
    Media: Copy
Delete unused: up to you, but for a reel, my guess is you DO want to delete unused
Handles: if you DO delete unused, then DO add handles

if you Delete unused, you have to ask for a new project, as your old timeline will not be able to connect with the new trimmed media.
