Editing QuickTime in CS4
Good day all you brilliant editors. 🙂 Need a touch of help.
I have footage shot on a JVC GY-HM700 camera in the QuickTime format. This has to be edited in CS4 due to the fact the government at this time does not allow the use of CS5. We can not use 64 bit machines. – yet. Footage is XDCam EX 1920 x 1080i 35Mb/s, 29.97 16 bit, 48kHz. It is really beautiful.
We do have some 500 clips to convert to??? Tried converting to MPEG2 in Adobe CS5 Encoder, it crashes the application on my Mac. Also the government does not like Macs…yet.
What format would you suggest converting to in order to maintain the highest quality for editing in CS4. Thank you.

Try Avid’s DNxHD for editing (it’s free): https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=372311
MPEG2 is terrible for editing, and was created as a delivery format. DNxHD was designed for editing.

Thank you. Believe at this time I’ll try converting to MP4. I’m not a Premiere Pro person yet. Just switching over. I have CS5 but the government requires C4.
