So I’ll go with Raylight for editing P2 MXF with Vegas 10.
How come it’s not the same thing for the .mts?
I have a Panasonic HD AVCCAM with SD card and I don’t have any problems rendering in Vegas (9.0). Is it that there is no difference in the .mts format from both Sony and Panasonic?MC

AVCCAM is the name of the professional AVCHD camcorder product line from Panasonic’s Broadcast division. Sony Vegas supports AVCHD (which is an industry standard) so it works right put of the box. Any AVCHD camera should work fine with Vegas.
P2 MXF contains DVCPRO HD which is a proprietary Panasonic format (it is a competitor to Sony HDCAM) and from what I understand, Sony and Panasonic lawyers can’t agree on the terms under which to “share” this proprietary information so that Vegas can support it. So it’s complicated by the fact that these two companies are competitors each one wanting to protect it’s own intellectual property. (you can’t blame them really)

May 1, 2012 at 5:57 pmHello. For what it’s worth, I wanted to add that I could edit my camera’s files within Sony Vegas Pro.
I just purchased a Canon XF105 and after recording a few sample clips, I transferred the clips via the Canon utility that comes with the camera onto my laptop and then dragged the largest file into Vegas. It worked fine.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that I installed the utility software first, or that the clip is read by Vegas. It’s version 10.

June 19, 2014 at 8:49 amOld post although, I had something to share here. If you have a Panasonic DVCPRO P2 camcorder, you may want to edit Panasonic DVCPRO P2 MXF files in Sony Vegas Pro, though latest Vegas added many new features, it can’t support P2 MXF footages well still. For us, it’s a bit hard to handle MXF clips for playing and editing. If you are struggling to find a best workflow for Panasonic P2 and Sony Vegas, you can refer to the Importing P2 MXF to Sony Vegas tutorial.
By the way, you should find the MXF video from one MXF whole structure folder, here I take my P2-dvcpro25 as an example: double click the P2-dvcpro25> CONTENTS> VIDEO, and then you can find the MXF file.
