Questions about working with our P2 archives: we off-load our P2 cards to large DroboFS and pull from that archive in Final Cut for editing. We’re wondering if there a way to remove clips from an existing archive? Let’s say you have an off-loaded folder that contains an interview and some great footage. The interview is dated so you want to eliminate it but keep the footage. Can you do that?

Or let’s say you have great footage of two or three seperate locations and want to seperate them into seperate archive folders. Can you do that?

We have P2 Content Manager but it seems to want to ingest the footage or clips then push it back out into one folder containing seperate folders for each clip. That doesn’t do us much good.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Great question!

I can’t think in a way to do it that doesn’t involve putting the CONTENTS folder back into a P2 card and delete the unwanted clips from the camera menu. Of course, a software that can do that in your laptop would be great.

I wonder if somebody would come with an answer to that.

After a little configuring, I was able use Panasonic’s P2 Content Mngt System for the Mac and determined the following–
    I can:
Delete individual clips from an existing archive. (I had to be viewing clips in the list mode in order to do so. The thumbnail mode would not let me.)
Copy individual clips to a new CONTENTS folder

    However, I can’t:
    Move clips
When copying, it places all new clips into a new CONTENTS folder. But I can’t create a folder to place that CONTENTS folder into from within the P2 CMS software.
(Either I create a folder to copy the CONTENTS folder into or I make a new folder afterwards and drag the new CONTENT folder into it.)

Not sure why I can’t move clips. It would be nice to be able to move related clips from different shoots or subjects together. But being able to Delete is a major win!
