For those editing on the new generation of iMacs, I’m wondering if anybody could tell me what there experiences have been editing on various formats…

I’m pretty sure iMac handles 720p DVCPRO HD footage just fine- I think- but I’m curious how it might handle 1080p or 1080i footage… OR even… 4K? Probably would totally choke on that…

Anyway, if anybody with experience has feedback that would be very appreciated.

    Thanks…

We see inquiries about the iMac daily. A quick search will get you tons of interesting comments. You can ignore any from me.

My basic answer remains, “I don’t recommend the iMac because it has no expansion or update capabilities for drives or cards. You can rapidly end up in a technological deadend that could easily be escaped from by adding an accessory to a desktop Macintosh.”

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    [Samah Bennett] ” OR even… 4K?”

That loud thump you heard was the sound of me hitting the floor when I fell down laughing.

To work with high bandwidth material like uncompressed HD or any compressed or uncompressed version of 2k or 4k you’ll need a high bandwidth connection to a really fast drive array. There’s simply no way to do this on an iMac.
