editing multiple clip durations?
Posted by Shane Etter on March 8, 2012 at 9:53 pmi have a series of videos/pictures that i want to each be 1.24 seconds long (to synchronize to a beat). there will be over 100 of these in the output.
i’ve googled and RTFM’d.is there a way to trim all clips to be a certain same durations?

If they are pictures, you could Group them together and then Ctrl+Drag the entire group to make the overall length shorter. This works with still images but not video because it will change the speed of the video.
What you really need is a script plug-in like Ultimate S Lite which is purposefully built for doing photo/video montages and can change multiple events to be any duration you want with one click. There are other tools like Ultimate S Pro, Excalibur, Vegasaur, Timeline Tools, etc. that have features that may provide this function. I happen to work at VASST and developed Ultimate S Pro/Lite so that’s why I recommend it. 😉

For the pictures (only), can’t he change the default length in the Options|Preferences|Editing tab and change the New Still Image Length (seconds) field to 1.24? This will only work with new images added to the timeline AFTER the change (i.e. he may have to delete pictures already on the timeline that are not 1.24 seconds long).

Yes. I didn’t suggest that because the images were already on the timeline and this only affects new pictures that are dropped as you pointed out. That would be a good solution when starting out of you know what length you want your images to be.

August 16, 2014 at 9:48 amHi,
Am trying to do this (select first still image, then shift and left click last still image. Right click and create new group, control left-click on last image and drag), but all it’s doing is duplicating the images as I drag them over, not extending the existing ones’ lengths…
Any tips here? Man, I never thought it would take 25 hours to edit a 15 minute video…But sure have learned a lot.
