    So the same holds true for 720 as well as 1080? What about HDV?

    So what would happen if you have:1920×1080, 1440×1080, 1280×720 and 960×720 HD all in the same open timeline?

    FCP would un-squeeze the anamorphic footage to fill the screen. This is where a good capture card comes into play for added RT. The Kona/(Decklink?)/Matrox cards take this scaling task of the footage OFF of FCPs shoulders and onto it’s own. They do the scaling.

    There is no vertical blanking with HD formats.

    So the differences in the HD formats are that they are anamorphic or rastered or sqeezed. But in SD the difference between 480 and 486 is that the lines are missing all together. Right?

    Actually Greg, it’s pragmatism rather than sarcasm.

    Unfortunately, screenshots from Apple Grab are .tiff only, but The Cow mechanism doesn’t like tiffs, so I have to convert them to jpegs.

    Trust me, if I didn’t have to convert them every time, I’d probably have a still image in almost every post, and would happily have shown you HDV, 720p, and 1080i.
