editing in multiclip editing mode
Posted by Renee Bergan on July 9, 2007 at 7:07 amHi,
i’m editing a 3 camera shoot in multiclip editing mode in FCP 5.1.4. When doing this my timeline indicates that it will need to be rendered. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong?
OS 10.4.10

July 9, 2007 at 11:30 amOnce you go to the top menu/modify/collapse multiclips” the render won’t be necessary. You only see the green line or whatever color you have, when the multiclips are uncollapsed.

July 9, 2007 at 1:07 pmYar, you need to realize multiclip is actually an effect. Depending on the usual factors, your RT playback of mutliclips varies.
Of all the posts we’ve seen here about multiclip not working, 99% of them turn out to be user errors. Suggest you experiment a bit first before you go into a project that depends heavily upon multiclip functioning flawlessly. Applying effects to mutliclip clips is especially weird.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

July 9, 2007 at 7:01 pmYes i got that, but then it locks that clip in and i can no longer edit while seeing the various camera angles simultaneously. According to the manual, it seems this is the last step once you’ve completed your edits. So is there any way to edit using the multi clip playback without having the timeline requiring rendering. It does not appear so.

July 9, 2007 at 7:35 pmSo I’m not sure what is your problem, unless you don’t have your timeline set so you can see the multiclip without rendering. If that’s the case go to the RT pulldown on the upper left of your timeline and set it to Unlimited RT playback, dynamic playback video quality and multiclip playback. You’ll then see your multiclips as you playback,
Re collapse & uncollapse you can do that as often as you want.

July 9, 2007 at 8:41 pmGo to Ken Stone’s FCP website:
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcp_homepage_index.html
Use the search engine there, and type in Multiclip. There’s a nice article that spells it all out.

July 10, 2007 at 7:19 amI have already done all that. Timeline still require i render it.
***note to all. I did take the time to read and learn about the multicam process before asking creative cow. NO WHERE am i seeing that the timeline in the multicam sequence needs renedering, except on my system.
the only time my timeline does not require rendering is when i collaps the multiclips, but then i loose the ability to look at the different angles while editing.

Try setting for low quality playback in the RT menu.
