I just finished down converting my HDV project to SD 10-bit uncompressed and I’m happy with this workflow method that avoids the very bad quality conversion associated with converting HD sequences to SD sequences natively in FCPro.

The old stand by methods of exporting to QT to downconvert or using a hardware realtime down converter aside, I needed to EDIT the material in HD and SD, ending up with two sequences.

Using Media Manager’s recompress option, I was able to keep the same quality as the QT export route. The clips look fanatastic. Using the Custom export template you can change the output to suite your needs.

One question, can I output to both a stereo down mix and two channels of mixed mono from FCPro without doing it on an analog mixer? I use the Multibridge which I think has embedded SDI and AES/EBU outs.

Yes, you simply do this in the audio tracks themselves. You create a stereo mix and a mono mix. If you need to do this in one pass on four channels, you simply assign the stereo mix to one pair and the mono mix to the other pair.
